As you may know, my life earlier this year was, well, severely impacted by my migraines and depression.  I am so grateful for good doctors who knew what to do to help get me back on the road to good health.  Just as importantly, I was so thoroughly grateful for the insurance that my husband’s employer helps to provide, which is United Health Care (UHC).  By and large we have had wonderful care through them so when Mom Select gave me an opportunity to learn more about a program that was new to me. A partnership between United Healthcare and the schools is available to provide health insurance for children under the program titled United Health Care Student Resources.

Having children has taught me a great many thing but one of which is that you just never know when you will need to call upon a doctor or medical person to help care for and treat your child.  Send them to school and, well, usually the chances increase, strictly from a numbers perspective.  And with the Influenza season rolling around plus the potential for more Swine Flu outbreaks, well, this special opportunity to provide affordable insurance coverage for your children is well worth considering.  Here is a basic overview of the benefits:

  • The health plan offers protection/coverage for injury AND sickness, 24/7/365.
  • UHCSR’s program is only available through many participating school districts and participating private schools. Nationally available through schools that belong to the Association of Christian Schools International.
  • The Health Plan is available to K12 students from ages 5 – 18 (ages 4-18 in Texas)
  • Designed to be affordable at $588 per policy year or $98 every two months. Parents can enroll their student at any point in the school year.

The fact that your child can be enrolled anytime during the school year is an added bonus because in this day and age, with all of the job layoffs and such, you just never know when this may be just what you need.

Here in North Texas, families are  often very transient, with a lot of job changes causing families to come and go so I was very pleased when I read in the policy that in the event of a student transfer or move; the policy continues in force anywhere in the world if the covered person should relocate prior to the expiration of coverage.

Here are some commonly asked questions:

Q: What is the Health Plan (Injury & Sickness Plan)?
A: The UnitedHealthcare StudentResources Health Plan provides benefits for loss due to a covered injury or sickness up to the maximum benefit for each injury or sickness. The coverage is effective the date the application and premium are received in our office or the first day of the school year, whichever is later, and continues until the end of the premium payment period or the end of the policy period, whichever date is sooner. This plan covers sickness & accidents which happen anytime, 24-hours per day, while your student is covered under this plan (excluding interscholastic sports).

Q: Our family is moving. Will I need to reapply in our new location?

A: If you move AFTER the insurance effective date, your policy is “grandfathered” and you are covered for the remainder of the policy effective period.

Q: Do I have to insure all of my students at once?

A: You may insure one or all. If you decide to insure some of your students now and some at a later date, you are free to do so. Simply return to the site and select Enroll Now to enroll additional students.

Stop by the K-12 website and get all of the answers you need.  I really think you will be glad that you did!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Select on behalf of United Health Care and received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.
