TX Tax Free Weekend

14 August 2009

512327 go shopping 1 TX Tax Free WeekendWell Texas, it is almost time for the weekend that some of us love and some of us detest – Tax Free Weekend (TFW).  Before I had kids, I avoided Tax Free Weekend like the plague.  It just was not worth the hassles and crowds to save that 8%.

Then, once I became a Mom and quickly had 2 in diapers, and I learned that baby clothes AND diapers were exempt from sales tax too on TFW, I made a point of visiting places like Babies r Us and saving on things I would buy anyway.

Now that I have not only 2 but 3 girls in school as of the 24th, well I am much more interested in capitalizing on the savings.  The best part of all?  Most retailers do the same thing and have some great sales at the same time!  Wooohooo!  I love a great deal!

Now, in case you are not familiar with Tax-Free Weekend, Texas shoppers (several other states have something similar) will be able to take advantage of the 2009 Tax Free Weekend on August 21, 22, and 23…just before school begins on the 24th.

Here is the way it works:  The law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt.

Includes some things you might not think of like Diapers, Baby Clothes, undies, and most school supplies priced at less than $100 purchased for use by a student in an elementary or secondary school.  Check the Texas Comptroller’s web page for the complete list. Most of all, get out there and do your part for the Texas economy!
