So how many of you grew up with these songs running through your mind?  I know I did so when Mom Central wrote and told me they had an Oscar Mayer Lunchables blog tour available, I was more than happy to oblige.   I know that hot dogs, lunch meats and yes, even the Lunchables have kind of gotten a deserved bad rap regarding being less than healthy for us.    I also know my girls always ask for a Lunchable any time they go grocery shopping with me.  While they always have seemed a bit expensive for what you get – essentially a small box of cheese and crackers, I have bought them as a treat.  I had even noticed they had come up with a smaller version for toddlers so P3 would not miss out.

Well, remember how I had health issues earlier this year?  My girls began eating many more school lunches than either my husband or I would have liked just out of necessity.  By the end of the school year, however, my husband decided it was more cost effective to stick a Lunchable in their lunch bags a few times a week than have them buy lunch each day.

Summer arrived and I was getting better and looking ahead to this school year – 2009-2010 and looking at ways to start the year out successfully.  One thing I decided was that we would go back to our policy of buying school lunch once a week and that I would buy a few more packaged items in an effort to help us control portions and facilitate easy lunch packing.  Lunchables would be a part of this but how big a part?

New and Improved Lunchables!

Well let me introduce you to the new and improved versions of Lunchables!

The new Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations, designed to satisfy both picky eaters and our need to provide our kids with convenient and better-for-them lunchtime options. The Lunchables team is introducing a new line of Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations, which includes spring water and a number of firsts for the brand, including sub sandwiches and applesauce.

The six new varieties include: Turkey + Cheddar Sub Sandwich, Ham + American Sub Sandwich, Turkey + Cheddar Cracker Combos, Ham +American Cracker Combos, Deep Dish Cheese Pizza and Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza.  Both the Turkey + Cheddar Sub Sandwich and Deep Dish Cheese Pizza meet the Kraft Foods Sensible Solution criteria for nutritional value.

The product line also offers the following enhancements:

• First-ever sub sandwich
• Turkey made with 100% turkey breast: a good source of protein
• Bread made with whole grain
• Kraft 2% cheddar: an excellent source of calcium
• Applesauce
• Dessert like Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies and Mini Nilla Wafers

I bought one, thinking I would try it.  Well, P2 got to it before I did and came home saying, “Mommy!  That was the best Lunchable E-V-E-R!!!”.  So there you have it – healthy and convenient for the Moms and delicious and fun for the kiddos.  It does not get a lot better than that.  So, next time you are in the store and considering buying lunch items, give the new Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations a try.
