I recently received a copy of an adorable book called Hayseed’s First Race. I knew immediately that I had to give it to P2. She LOVES it. Of course, it IS about a horse after all 
Written and illustrated by Sally Schrock for children PreK through 2nd Grade. Sally has even listed print out activity sheets for those ages as well.
In Hayseed’s First Race, Hayseed and your child remember to love themselves for who they are and to never, ever let anyone tell them they don’t don’t belong. In this and other stories in Hayseed series, Hayseed and your child will grow up together while leather valuable life lessons along the way.
It is a very cool book with a great lesson for us all. Basically, Hayseed enters his very first race, confident of his abilities, but when a horse, well, perfect in every way named Prince Perfect makes fun of him, Hayseed begins to worry. Will Hayseed win his first race or will his own self-doubt get in the way and make him place 2nd, 3rd or even lower?
