Evenflo Triumph Advance LX Convertible Car Seat – review & giveaway(Ended)
This Giveaway is closed. Congratulations to #120 Colette!
Thanks to everyone who participated! Watch for more great products in 2010!
One of the most important decisions you can make for the safety and comfort of your child is which car seat to purchase. There are so many choices that it can seem daunting and confusing. As the mother of two, a six year old and a two year old, I have had my fair share of experience with different car seats and while safety is my number one concern, I have learned that every seat is different.
The Evenflo Triumph Advanced LX Convertible Car Seat meets or exceeds all applicable federal safety standards, in fact it has been designed and tested for structural integrity at energy levels approx. 2X the federal crash test standard. It has also been side impact tested using a test protocol developed by Evenflo engineers to simulate the energy in the severe 5 star government side impact tests conducted for automobiles. There are currently no provisions in the US or Canada for side impact car seat testing, but because Evenflo considers car seat safety a top priority, they created a side impact test program for their car seats.
The Evenflo Triumph Advance has also been rated the #1 convertible car seat for performance and price by a leading consumer magazine in 2009.
I was recently approached by Evenflo to review the Triumph Advance XL Convertible Car seat. I had never actually used an Evenflo Car Seat for my kids, so I was curious to be able to test it out. They sent me the Triumph Advance in the “Cocoa Fizz” pattern.

My Thoughts
Pros:
Infinite Slide Harness – I honestly didn’t expect to like this feature. It it unusual because traditionally the shoulder straps sit at a fixed height (that you increase with some difficulty as the child gets older). The infinite slide harness makes it easy to get the perfect fit for your child, quickly and easily.
TensionRight knobs – This feature makes it so much easier to get just the right tension and snugness in the harness straps. Gone are the days when you pull too hard on the strap and make it too tight, or have to fumble to find the latch to release the tension. This knob, and it’s release make it easy to get a perfect tightness to the straps for maximum safety.
Roomy – This seat goes up to a weight of 50lbs (my son is almost six and barely 50lbs) so it should last quite a few years and it is roomy enough to very comfortably accommodate kids up to that weight.
Removable cover – The cover seems really easy to remove for washing (I did not try to remove it yet however) which is a major plus when you don’t have to disassemble the entire seat to get the cover off.
Chest clip is difficult for child to unclip but not for adult – My daughter can get out of the top clip on other car seats. She is apparently fairly nimble and can get them undone. The Evenflo Advance is rather clever with the chest clip because instead of just having to squeeze the top and bottom to get it undone, the buttons for the clip don’t line up directly, so you have to squeeze but sort of on an angle so it is more difficult and she can’t get it undone. (note: the chest clip on the seat we received is different than the one pictured above)
Cons:
Fold-down cup holder – The cup holder really seems flimsy and like an after-thought to me on this seat. My kids think it is fun to make it a game. Abby flips it down in the open position, Jake flips it back up, then they both giggle and repeat. It also isn’t designed to make it easy for a toddler to get the cup into it either. We have just been putting Abby’s cup on the seat next to her.
Latch tether strap on the back – The latch tether strap that goes over the back of the seat and down behind it to the built-in latch hooks in my van is too short. I could barely get it hooked and then when I did there was hardly any fabric left for me to be able to pull the strap tight.
Summary:
Overall I really do like the seat. The fabric is soft, and the seat itself is well padded and appears to be comfortable. While, I’m not in love with the color and pattern on the fabric, that is of such minor importance when all things are considered, that I don’t even notice it anymore.
The pros greatly outweigh the cons for us (because I did get the rear tether secure and tightened with some effort) and Abby seems comfortable and happy and most of all safe.

Would love to win this for my baby boy.
I like this: Removable body and infant head support pillows
It means I can continue to use the seat as baby grows, and it won’t become obsolete, forcing me to buy yet another carseat. I also love the cup holder that folds away.

I would love to win this for my son. I love how much they tested this carseat, and also the TensionRight knobs – I always worry that I am making the straps on my son’s carseat too tight or too loose.
•Multi-position ReclineRight™ base – so my little ones head doesn’t always fall awkwardly chin to chest

I love the Removable, washable pads. It will be SO handy when having to wash or clean up.
My favorite feature is how this car seat will truly grow with my child. It holds an infant from 5 to 35 lbs (rear facing) and 20 to 50 lbs forward facing. That’s a lot of use at a very reasonable price.
The best feature to me is that it has been side impact tested.
My favorite feature is the Removable, washable pads .
I like the removable body and infant head support pillows, because if it doesn’t have these, the babies head falls to the side and looks so uncomfortable. Thanks!
I don’t have one favorite feature, but my favorite features are the Infinite Slide Harness Adjustment System, the Multi-Position Recline Base and the “New” EPP, energy absorbing foam liner. Why? Because these features contribute to ease of use, protection and comfort for your child, which is what a good car seat is all about

I really love the Infinite Slide Harness adjustment system. It makes it so easy to get the perfect fit for the most safety. And I don’t have to remove and “restring” the harness for each adjustment!

Aside from overall safety considerations, the thing I like best is the side know adjustment for the straps. It can be really awkward to loosen and/or tighten them while the child is actually in the seat; this would ease that problem.
I like that it is up to 50lbs front facing. Thanks for the chance.

Multi-position ReclineRight ia my favorite feature because the breathing in infants is so much easier when they can recline and are not chin to chest.
I like the adjustable straps.
I like the Infinite Slide Harness adjustment system featurer cause that is alot more safety for me.
