(Ended) Be BOLD – This Time, Color INSIDE the Lines – Sakura Review & Giveaway
I love to create. I really do. Weather here on the blog or with my crafts or in about a zillion other ways, creating is a huge outlet for me. Thankfully, while I can be a perfectista about somethings, I have learned the the very essence of art is creativity and that some of the very best creations in our world evolved via an ‘oops’. Once I realized this, it was extremely freeing to me. My Mom gave me a sign that hangs in my office that says, “Be BOLD – Color outside the lines.” I try to make it my mantra in creating although there are those times where it just is not the right thing to do.
Sakura has created these cool stickers called Sticklers™. When I first saw that the Sticklers™ were made by Sakura, I was excited as I have used many a Sakura brand pen in my scrap-booking and I love the quality of their inks. As for the Sticklers™, basically they are stickers with raised outlines and empty spaces in between. They have two sorts of gel-type pens that they include in their Sticklers™ Activity Kits and I got to try some out. Some include Glaze pens that give a painted-glass effect. They also have some that include Souffle pens to make a more opaque decoration. You can even combine the two types of pens for effects all your own. You can check out all of their varieties here.
Sakura is not a novice brand – they have been around since 1921. In 1924, they created the first-ever oil pastel that combined oil and pigment and named it Cray-Pas. In the early 80’s they created Pigma ink which is still loyally used by architects, scientists, artists, cartoonists, and scrap bookers, to name a few. In 1984, Sakura invented the first gel-based ink which earned them the prestigious Inventors Award in 2000 by Japan’s patent office. The most recent invention is the raised ink with Glaze (2003) ink, and Soufflé (2005) ink, the very inks I mentioned that they include in he Sticklers™ kits.
Of course, you do not want to merely take my word for how cool these Sticklers are – you have to see them for yourself. Now, thankfully, they retail for around $5.99 and can be found at places online like Amazon or locally like Michaels.
