A Boy and His Blob…a game for Wii (Review)

510LKZOyNYL. SL500 AA300 A Boy and His Blob...a game for Wii (Review)What would it be like to have a friend that could turn into a ladder, or a balloon, or even a trampoline?  Well if you are the boy in the Wii game “A Boy and his Blob”, it is very handy.  Trying to get through all the levels this game has to offer requires to turn you blob, using colored jelly beans, into all sorts of useful tools.  That and a keen eye for problem solving will keep you entertained.

A Boy and his Blob” has 40 levels each more challenging than the previous.  In each level you are trying to complete the level, while at the same time trying to find three treasure chests that open additional levels for you to traverse.  That is the challenge that I love the most.  Completing the levels is, with some logic and work, possible, but I quickly discovered that finding all three treasure chests is the real challenge.  You can complete a level without finding all three treasure chests, but it feels like an empty victory.

What I really like about the game:

  • Failure is ok.  If you do something wrong, such as falling off a cliff, then the game puts you right back where you were before and you can try again.  Some of the challenges take multiple attempts so I like that quick retry option.
  • The graphics are different that most games, given the game an almost water color picture feeling to it.
  • Save feature allows you to go at your own pace.  This is nice, but you would expect this from any game these days.  Still it was nice to have.

What I didn’t like:

  • The game only has a save feature for one game.  When my daughter decided she wanted to play the game she had to overwrite my saved gave to start her own.
  • The aforementioned daughter (age icon cool A Boy and His Blob...a game for Wii (Review) hard a hard time getting past some of the first levels and was constantly asking me for advice and help.  From this perspective, and the perspective that my 7 year old was scared by some of the screens, I would not recommend this game to the under 10 group.

All in all, I liked the game.  While I do not play it with the intensity and desire of some of the other games we have, it is a diversion from time to time.  If you like puzzle games that make you think, then you will like this game.

A Boy and His Blob for Wii is rated E for everyone and available for about $29.99.  It can be purchased at Amazon.com as well as your favorite store for games near you.
